Chucky Van Wormer and Kiko Vega on the boat La Hielera out of Hotel Palmas de Cortez won the East Cape Bisbee 2011. The blue marlin was landed in 35 minutes and weighed in at 557 lbs. on the first day of the three day tournament. The fish was landed on a Hi5 lure on 80lb. test line.

East Cape Guides Report 7/28/11

The 2011 Summer is starting to heat up with a very good showing of blue marlin and dorado. The winds we had earlier in the summer have settled down and the water temps/clarity are looking excellent. Bait has been plentiful and the sardinas have been large all summer. We are getting three to four blues a day and a consistent bite on dorado with boats averaging about 10 per day. The tuna have been up and down, but when boats are finding the spotted dolphin, the tuna have been on the chew.

As of today, Chucky Van Wormer on the boat La Hielera out of Hotel Palmas de Cortez has the top blue marlin for the East Cape Bisbee tournament. The fish was landed in 35 minutes and weighed in at 557 lbs. Currently, it is the only fish that has made it to the scales. Eight other blues were released yesterday, no blacks have been landed to date.
