East Cape Guides Fishing Report - May 2015

BEFORE
We are definitely in the transition to warmer Summer water conditions. The weather has been mild and beautiful with light breezes. Terrafin reports are showing warmer 85 degree water creeping up the mainland. Overall, May was a solid showing of striped marlin with flurries of tuna up to 50# coming from schools offshore chasing flying fish and squid. Wahoo to 63# were very consistent for this time of year with two or three coming to the dock on a regular basis. We also saw some nice dorado to 45# but not a lot of quantity yet. As for big fish, two blue marlin and a black marlin were landed in the last week. The biggest topped out at 450#. Inshore, we are see good pargo, cabrilla and jacks. Fishing has been mostly North but we are seeing some more action down South as the warmer water moves up. Check out our client photos for May.
AFTER

Hope to see you on the water.

Buena pesca,

Mark

East Cape Guides On-The-Water Report - May 21, 2015

Well, this season is definitely starting off a bit early. I've been busy on the water with clients the last few days but I just got off the water. Fish is good as long as you go North. The South has been uncharacteristically barren. The tuna have been on the chew as of late and we have been seeing large schools of tuna chasing flying fish with some great aerobatics to witness. The tuna are mostly under 15# with a few larger units up to 50#. We also baited a swordie today but no go. Highlights include a 310# blue marlin taken two days ago, a 450# blue marlin today, a 63# wahoo today, solid striper bite and a few nice dorado. Here's some photos from the last week.

Buena pesca,

Mark

East Cape Starting to Heat Up - May 15, 2015

Looks like things are starting to heat up in the East Cape. Marlin and dorado are starting to show. I just finished a couple of fun days on the water in La Paz with my show buddy Dante Maestri. We had some excellent cabrilla (leopard grouper) fishing. We also lost a half dozen BIG yellowtail as were completely undergunned on the gear for these homeguard YTs. Huge thanks to Leonard of Baja Pirates for showing us an exceptional time in La Paz. Great fishing, dining and company.

THE WEAPON by Dave Blair

Here is the latest secret weapon for those springtime roosters on the fly. It's called "The Weapon" from Dave Blair of Think Like a Fish http://www.thinklikeafish.biz/.

I've been playing around with a few of my hoochie hybrid patterns on The Weapon pusher head and next is the bullet head. I also tied up a few larger billfish/dorado patterns...enjoy.
