Mike Chavira scored on this 130lb yellowfin tuna. He caught the fish on 40lb test with a chunk of squid......it took him 25 minutes to boat the fish. Of course his success was due to my instruction other wise he would have lost the fish, sitting next to Mike is Jo Barcimo his filipino house boy.

This one put up a tougher fight and took 1 and 1/2 hours to get on the boat. There's alot of big fish on the Iman bank which is about a 2 hour run from the East Cape and an hour run from San Jose del Cabo. Prime bait was chunking with squid and drifitng with 40 to 60 pound test outfits. Pictured left to right is our friend and great guide Santos, Jo Barcimo, Mike Chavira and me. There also alot of smaller yellowfin about a 1/2 hour from Rancho Leonero, most are in the 10# to 20#
BIG FISH ROUND UP RESULTS- DAY 1:
My oh my what a great first day, first tuna we weighed today was a 104lb'er and thats what I wanted, one fish to set the mark, next boat brought in a 45.6lb dorado so we were eleated that this was a good sign for a competitive tournament. As boats continued to arrive with more tuna and dorado we continued to weigh them to fill in the top five tuna and dorado for the first day of fishing. With 5 minutes left before we closed the scales at 4:00pm Ryamond Kawamata's boat the El Loco came to the dock and dropped a nice big tuna on the dock, this was an impressive fish. The fish was weighed and tip the scales at 166.4lbs, yikes......this is going to be hard to beat as this the biggest tuna ever in the BFRU.....I hope someone can catch a bigger one to make this exciting til the last day......attached are the biggest tuna and dorado leading the first day. The angler catching the biggest dorado is Marlon Bechtol.
Have a great week everyone...
Sincerely,
Richard, Rauna, Robin, Roxy and Becky
